Inflow of Somali Refugees Continue; Over 2,500 Somalis Arrived to Yemen in February

The Ministry of Interior’s Media Center reported that 2,559 Somali refugees arrived to Yemen in February alone, while another 70 refugees drowned off the country’s coasts.

Security sources mentioned that 35 Somali refugees were arrested in Hadramout province’s Broum area, including seven women and three children, after they had been dropped off by an anonymous boat that fled the scene quickly.

The source further noted that the arrested Somali refugees were gathered and delivered to the administration of refugee’s camp in Lahj province.

Similarly, Kharaz Refugees’ Camp in Lahj province received on Thursday a new batch of Somali refugees mounting to 288 after being gathered from Shabwa province’s coasts.

According to security apparatuses, 153 refugees, including 29 women, were deployed from Shabwa to Kharaz Camp. Another 43 and 25 refugees were deployed from Abyan and from Taiz respectively.

The steady arrival of Somali refugees continue in such part of a year as there are ideal weather conditions where it becomes easy for Somali refugees and smugglers to avoid the high seas, especially when refugees are transferred in wrecked and old boats.
