Somalia: Ethiopian troops capture 20 Somalis in Hiran region

Ethiopian troops have reportedly captured 20 Somalis in Hiiran region in central Somalia after the Ethiopian troops crossed the border days ago, witnesses said on Tuesday.

It is not known why the Ethiopian troops have arrested the Somalis who were reportedly farmers in Defow area in the region.

The Ethiopian troops are fighting with Ogaden Liberation Front (ONLF) rebels in the region and they also suspect other rebel militias in the Somali region.

Somali clerics accused Ethiopia of being arming Somali militias and intervention of Somali internal affairs.

The administration of Hiran region had commended earlier Ethiopia and called for to take its troops from the Somali towns.

The Islamist administrators in Beledweyn in Hiiran region threatened they would attack the Ethiopian troops if they do not withdraw from the region.

There is no word from Ethiopia relating to the accusations and the detaining of the Somali farmers.
