Somalia: Seven people killed in central Somalia

At least seven people were killed and ten others were injured in fighting between al-Shabab and local militias in Mahas district in Hiiran region in central Somalia, witnesses said on Wednesday.

The fighting started after al-Shabab has reportedly tried to take the control of the town by force, but the local clan militias resisted them.

Residents said tension was very high in the town and there is fear that fighting could erupt at any time in the town since the two sides are regrouping each other.

Some reports indicate that al-Shabab was defeated in the fighting and the Shabab is waiting reinforcement from central Somalia towns under their control.

The situation of the town has returned to normalcy. Al-shabab is fighting for to overthrow the government led by president Sharif Sheik Ahmed.
