The Islamic Courts Union that works with the Somali fragile government has sized Mahaday town in middle Shabelle region, but they have reportedly withdrew from it, officials and witnesses said on Thursday.
Officials said the pro government Islamists captured the town from Islamist rebels after a brief fighting between the two sides.
Moalin Dahir Adow Alasow, the leader of the Islamic Courts Union said they took the town briefly and pulled back from it.
Reports from the Mahaday town say that the pro government Islamist forces left from the town as the people started fleeing from their houses in fear for other fighting between the pro government Islamic Courts Union forces and the rebels against them who were managing it earlier.
Locals said that at least two of the warring sides died in the fighting that started on Thursday morning in Mahaday town in Middle Shabelle region.
More Islamist rebels from Hizbul Islam and al Shabaab have reportedly reached in Mahaday town after the pro Islamist government left it.
