A witness in Somalia says al-Qaida-linked militants in the country have cut off a hand and a leg each from three men convicted of robbery in a town near the capital.
A self-described judge named Sheik Yusuf Hassan Barow told more than 100 spectators that the three had admitted to the crimes and that the court sentenced them to cross amputations.
Witness Mukhtar Ali said Tuesday four masked men with long knifes executed the punishment in the agricultural town of Jowhar, 55 miles (90 kilometres) from the capital Mogadishu.
The men ranged in age from 18 to 31.
Al-Shabab is Somalia's most hardline group and uses public executions, amputations and floggings as means to coerce the public into submission.
