Tom Hanks To Take To The High Seas With Role In Somali Pirates Film

All kidding aside, this is an interesting role for him.

Sony Pictures has just struck a deal with Tom Hanks to star in their latest drama about Captain Richard Phillips. Capt. Phillips was the leader of Maersk Alabama, who selflessly gave himself up to a group of Somali pirates that stormed the cargo ship. By handing himself over as a hostage, he secured the rest of the crews freedom, but sentenced himself to three days along with the brutal pirates in a small lifeboat. Luckily, he was saved by the Navy SEALs and upon arriving home, he wrote a book about his struggle. Soon after, Sony purchased the film rights to his story and now, we're here, the movie underway with a major star attached.

This sounds just like the kind of movie Tom was born to do. Great casting choice!

Should we just give you the Oscar now or hold off until the movie is actually in theaters?
