Somalia: Somali and Somaliland Presidents Agree to Continue Their Dialogue After Talks in Turkey

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and President of Somaliland Ahmed Mahmoud Silanyo met in the Turkish capital, Ankara on Saturday (April 13th); they also later met with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

A communiqué was issued after the meeting expressing their commitment to continue the discussions. The communiqué also states that "the Dialogue is between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Government of Somaliland".

The two sides agreed "to encourage and facilitate International aid and development provided to Somaliland" and on the need to cooperate in security issues through sharing intelligence and training. They also agreed to refrain from using any inflammatory language or any other action that might put the continuation of their Dialogue at risk. They have proposed to meet again within three months in Istanbul.
