Streets lights on Maka-al-Mukarrama Avenue that links the presidential palace in the Somali capital to the Aden Abdulle International Airport, were blown up in early Thursday explosions.
The first blast occurred at around 5am (local time) followed by another, about 20 minutes later.
Mogadishu’s Deputy Mayor for Security Affairs Warsame Mohamed Hassan alias Jodah, said remote controlled explosive devices were attached to two street light poles.
“Experts indicated that explosives with magnet devices were used to blow up the poles and the solar system,” said Mr Hassan.
“The perpetrators are enemies who want to turn the city back into the dark days,” he added.
Maka-al-Mukarrama Avenue, stretching two and half kilometres, has since June 2012 been well light by the solar powered lights.
