Members of parliament reject Premier’s bid to address the house

In an overwhelming majority Somali members of parliament have voted against a bid by Prime minister Abdi Farah Shirdon to address the house of Parliament.

Members of parliament begun on Sunday debating a no-confidence motion against the Prime minister following weeks of political deadlock.

“His Excellency The Prime minister Abdi Farah Shirdon is asking to address the house” Somalia speaker of parliament told MPs before more than two-third of them voted against the planned address.

Analysts say today’s decision by parliament could be a major blow to the Prime minister who has been resisting a pressure from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to step down.

Members of parliament will proceed to debate on motion to impeach The Premier until Monday.
