Switzerland to help Somalia implement federal system

Switzerland, a country that has hundreds of years of federalism experience has pledged to assist the government of Somalia in implementing the federal system throughout the country.

The pledge was made by the Swiss ambassador to Somalia Dominik Langenbacher during a lengthy meeting with the parliament speaker Mohamed Sheik Osman Jawaari in Mogadishu on Tuesday.
The diplomat said that his country will increase its support to Somalia and in particular the implementation of the federal system in the country as well as other key development projects to be carried out in Somalia.
Mr. Jawaari for his part said that Somalia was ready to benefit from Switzerland and any other country interested in assisting Somalia in the creation of federalism.
“During our meeting we have discussed how Switzerland can play a role in the establishment of the federal system in Somalia because Switzerland has more than 7 hundred years of acting on the federal system”Mr. Jawaari told the media at the end of Tuesday’s meeting.
The United Nations special envoy to Somalia Nicholas Kay who attended the meeting said that the world body was lauding the pledges made by the Swiss ambassador on the behalf of his government.
