An interim committee of foreign and local traders in the area will try to find ways for the two groups to operate side by side without feelings of animosity, Gugulethu police announced on Tuesday.
On Monday local traders, who had sent letters to their Somali counterparts at the weekend, warning them to leave, apologised to the foreigners during a meeting called in by the police.
Representatives from each group were elected to meet regularly to discuss their concerns.
The police’s Elliot Sinyangana said the meeting went well.
“Both parties said so that they would like to see the presence of police wherever they sit to be part of the process just to overview,” Sinyangana explained.
