Muslim and Somali community leaders in Minnesota say they worry a congressional hearing on Islamic radicalization will lead to a backlash against members of their faith.
The leaders gathered in Minneapolis on Thursday to watch the House Homeland Security Committee hearing in Washington.
Zuhur (ZOO'-hur) Ahmed, the host of a local Somali radio show, says a hearing about radicalism is fair because certain people do pose a threat. But she says it's wrong to single out Muslims.
Ahmed says she wakes up every day feeling like an American, and Thursday's hearing makes her realize that some people might consider her less of a citizen because of her faith.
The subject is especially sensitive in Minnesota, where some 20 young Somali men are believed to have traveled to Somalia to fight for a terror group.
