Somali pirates free 4 Filipino crew members - report

Four Filipino crew members of a chemical tanker hijacked November last year were freed by Somali pirates, a radio report said.

The four Filipinos were among the 31 crew members of the Hannibal II, Panama-flagged chemical tanker with mostly Tunisian crew, who were abducted by the pirates, the report added.

The Filipino crew members are now in the custody of the European Union (EU) officials, the report said.

The report said the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is now coordinating with EU officials for the immediate repatriation of the Filipino seamen.

Somali pirates seized the tanker, carrying vegetable oil, last November while sailing to Suez from Malaysia.
