I AM so disappointed and disgusted with the comment of Lawrence Mgbangson the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) representative to Namibia.
This commissioner was quoted in an article in The Namibian 18 November 2011, saying “when dealing with Somalis you have to deal with them with long spoon”.
In my opinion as a fellow human being, his comment are tantamount to a violation of human rights as they are degrading, inhuman, discriminatory nature and racist comments, among others.
Furthermore, there is no valid reason that justifies him to smear the entire Somali community’s honour and reputation in Namibia and the global readers of The Namibian newspaper.
However, I should not be perceived as being on the side of the 10 Somalis who were apprehended by the Namibian security personnel.
Let the law deal with them but what I am saying here is that let every individual carry his/her cross and not used to pass judgment on other innocent members of the lager Somali community who are well over 15 million.
The million dollar question is what will have become of Mgbangson if he were to say “when dealing with American or even Europeans... you have to use long spoon”?
Lastly, remember it’s a fundamental and equal right of every human being to be recognised as a person rather than referring to those individuals as the ethnic group.
I think the Somali community deserve an apology from you Mgbangson!

Unfortunately, this man (Lawrence Mgbangson) although he is a UN staff member but still he displays discriminating and insulting an entire nation! Where is the UN's equality and fair treatment department? This stupid and ignorant man must be informed or else punished.

Lawrence I tell you Somalis are not troublesome as you say compared to non-muslim Nambibians who binge drink,rape.Yes there are very bad Somalians but why disgrace a nation with a reputable GDP and stragetic importance. Somalia is now( and I can safely say) out of the war era,but into an era like Pakistan: Peace but sporadic attacks, just like your country Nambibia. May you delt with justice.
