The TFG and ARS Agree to Form a Unity Government

Mogadishu, Somali (HOL) - The Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia (ARS) have agreed to form a unity government in Djibouti.

A Working group representing both sides which has been working on the framework of the unity government has released a memo outlining the shape of the proposed unity government which will start with the expansion of the Parliament.

Two hundred of the ARS proposed 275 members have been distributed based on the 4.5 percent formula among the four main clans giving each of the four main clans 44 seats while minority groups have been given 24 seats. Seventy five seats have been reserved for people whose membership in the unity government is deemed essential.

Seats in the current federal Parliament were also distributed based on the formula of 4.5 percent formula among the main clans and while the other minority groups got half a percentage.

It is expected that the ARS will soon announce its proposed members for the interim Parliament which will join the TFG Parliamentarians. The expansion of the number of the lawmakers in the interim parliament will bring the total number of lawmakers to 550.
