Garowe Online: Telecom Company forced to suspend Mobile Internet Service

A telecommunications company based in southern Somalia has complied with Somalia's Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab internet ban, Garowe Online reports.
In response to the recent decree by Al Shabaab, Hormuud telecom suspended the 3G Mobile Internet Service without officially presenting the reasons behind the new move that resulted in adverse effect on journalists and university students in Mogadishu.
Federal Government of Somalia has yet to comment on the suspension of internet service as the Somali militant group threatens intense action against telecom companies.
Speaking to Garowe Online News Agency, a concerned resident of Mogadishu said: "The order is really disheartening because, no internet service is available on mobiles. Lack of Mobile Internet is hampering crucial issues".
Despite the dwindling militias presence of Al Shabaab, Hormuud's undisclosed response has demonstrated the extent of extremists influence in the war-raved southern part of the country.
