A woman who said she experienced unspeakable atrocities in Somalia was sentenced in Britain on fraud charges, authorities said.
Investigators said the woman, a resident of Sweden, made up tales of being gang-raped and seeing her brothers massacred in order to solicit donations from good-hearted Europeans.
Britain's The Sun said Tuesday the phony asylum seeker, who was actually from Kenya, took in 260,000 pounds ($406,172) in donations, which she used for African vacations and trips between Britain and Sweden.
The newspaper said the woman used the names Ayan Abdulle and Amina Muse to keep the scam going for six years. She will spend the next 4 ½ years in a British prison.
