Lewiston police continue to investigate a Saturday night attack against three teenage boys outside the city's skate park. On Monday, one of the 15-year-old victims told News 13 he was at the park with his 15-year-old friend and his friend's 13-year-old brother when they saw what they describe as a Somali boy trying to remove a sign at the park. The three confronted the boy and briefly fought with what they say were a few Somali teens before leaving on their bikes for home. The teen reports two Somali teens followed them on a bike as a car with young adults inside approached them from behind. The teen says he and his two friends were attacked by a group of about ten older teenagers and young adults, who threw rocks and kicked the three as a woman watched from the sidewalk. After the group left, the teen's two friends called 911. He was taken to the hospital with a gash on his forehead, as well as a broken nose and cheekbone. The teen's mother reports she drove the boys to the skate park in a vehicle with tinted windows the next day, where they identified what they thought to be the silver Saturn used by the group, as well as three of their attackers.
Lewiston police say the car and two of the suspects were wrongly identified, but a 15-year-old teen has been charged with simple assault. Police say he isn't cooperating with the investigation and hasn't provided information about additional suspects. Police say they worked on the case for several hours Sunday night and are continuing with that work.
