Deliberations go into 3rd day after 9-day trial
The jury is still out in the case of two Somali women accused of funneling money to a terror group as deliberations stretch into their third day following the nine-day trial at the Hennepin County Government Center.
Jurors are trying to decide the verdict on each of the 15 charges leveled against Amina Farah Ali and Hawo Mohamed Hassen.
Ali faces one count of conspiracy and 12 counts of providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization, and Hassen has been charged with one count of conspiracy and two counts of providing false statements to investigators.
Throughout the trail, the women have insisted they were raising money to help the poor in their homeland.
The federal indictment says Ali went door-to-door in Somali communities in both Rochester and Minneapolis to raise money for the poor but instead sent it to al-Shabbab. Prosecutors accuse her of sending more than $5,000 to the terror group over nine months.
