Q&A: Political scientist on Somali terror case
by Tom Crann, Minnesota Public Radio
The conviction of two Minnesota women who provided aid to a terrorist group in Somalia raises the issue of how Somalis here can send money back to their homeland while ensuring they are not accidentally sending money to Al-Shabab.
The two women were found guilty of raising and funneling money to Al-Shabab, identified by the U-S as an organization with ties to Al-Qaeda.
Dr. Ken Menkahus is an associate professor of political science at Davidson College in North Carolina who has studied this issue. He speaks with Minnesota Public Radio on how the verdict may affect the Somali community and their efforts to support those in Somalia, especially at this time of extreme famine in the region.
