Somali Member of Parliament Abdisamad Maalim Mohamud has called upon the deployment of more African troops in Somalia.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with Turkish news agency Anadolu the former minister for home affairs in the transitional federal government has said he will submit his request in the pan African parliament meeting which is scheduled to take place in South Africa.
"I call upon African union to increase the number of troops in Somalia so as to maintain total peace and stability," He said.
Abdisamad has also thanked Turkish role in Somalia saying the visit of Turkish Prime minister Reccip Tayyip Erdiogan in the country two years ago has opened Somalia to the outside world.
"The start of direct international flights by the Turkish airlines has opened a new chapter in the history of our country," he said.
Abdisamad Maalim represents Somalia in the Pan African parliament.
AMISOM has more than 22000 troops in Somalia mainly from Uganda, Kenya, Burundi and Sierra Leone which are battling Al-Shabaab militant group in the country.
