KEYDMEDIA - News - South-West State of Somalia elects former minister as new president

A parliament in Baidoa has elected Monday Madobe Nunow Mohamed as the new president of Southwest State of Somalia administration, Keydmedia Online reports.

The 73-member Parliament opened at 9.30am local time in ADC building in Baidoa city with Speaker Hassan Shire Mohamud opening the session and praying for a peaceful election.

During the first round of voting, 6 presidential candidates have competed for the top post of the South-west state of Somalia.

First round vote results were:
  1. Madoobe Nunow Mohamed received  (27 votes )
  2. Mohamed Aden  Farkeeti, received  (21 Votes)
  3. C/fatah Mohamed Ibraahim received  (Gesey), (18 Votes)
  4. Eng. Hasan Abuukar received  (3 Votes)
  5. Mohamed Idiris Lesto received (3 Votes)
  6. Eng. Salah Sheikh Osman received (1 Votes). 
During the second round of voting, the top two contenders – Madobe Nunow and Mohamed Aden– competed while the remaining third candidate was eliminated in the second round.

Second round vote results were:

1.    Madoobe Nunow Mohamed received 44 votes
2.    Mohamed Aden Farkeeti received 27 votes

Finally, Madobe Nunow Mohamed was been elected as the first President of Southwest state for the next 4 years,” said Speaker Mohamud to the crowd’s applause.

Mr.  Mohamed serves as the minister of Justice and Constitution and parliement speaker in the last Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG) that replaced by the current Federal Government led Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

During the election, Mohamud Sayid Aden was elected as the vice president of South-west state of Somalia. The new president-elect will sonn unveil his cabinet after taking the helm of Office.
