Fighting in Somali capital kills 4,200 civilians

MOGADISHU's only ambulance service has said more than 4,200 bystanders have died in fighting in the Somali capital in the past two years.

The city suffers exchanges of mortars, rockets and artillery shells by Islamist insurgents and pro-government forces. Ambulance service head, Ali Muse, said pro-government forces were to blame for 80 per cent of the deaths.
