Somali store ’robbers’ appear in court

The case against four men accused of robbing Somali stores in Cape Town was postponed in the Athlone Magistrates Court on Thursday.

They were arrested in 2010.

Lulamile Tsheza, Luyanda Petu, Phindile Damane and Siyabonga Madikane will appear in court again on 27 January. They each face six counts of robbery with aggravated circumstances.

They are accused of robbing and attacking Somali stores in areas including Khayelitsha and Mitchell’s Plain in 2010.

Somali nationals who packed Courtroom F told Eyewitness News the arrests were encouraging.

The court postponed the matter to allow the accused to find legal representation. They have all been remanded in custody.
