International press freedom watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF) called on the Somali parliament on Monday (July 15th) to reject a draft media law, saying it violates freedom of information and encourages self-censorship.
The bill, approved by the cabinet July 11th, empowers courts to demand that journalists reveal their sources. It also undermines the role of the National Media Council and describes media offences in vague terms, RSF said in a press release.
