Somali imprisoned for 11 months after pleading guilty to theft, reckless driving and breaching bail

A Somali man today was jailed for 11 months after pleading guilty to stealing a laptop and driving a car recklessly while he was under the influence of alcohol. He also had his €10,000 personal guarantee confiscated by the court.
Ahmed Ali Abdiwahab, 30, of Hamrun, first broke into a penthouse in Zurrieq and stole a computer. He drove a car which belonged to the penthouse owner in a negligent and dangerous manner to the Marsa Open Centre, damaging the centre's main gate in the process.
He pleaded guilty to the theft, driving recklessly and dangerously under the influence of alcohol, damaging the gate and breaching the bail conditions over another pending case.
Magistrate Gabriella Vella ordered him to pay €650 to cover the damage of the gate and suspended his licence for three months.
Police Inspector Priscilla Caruana prosecuted.
