Rep. Ellison Statement on Meeting with Somali Diplomatic Delegation | Congressman Keith Ellison

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) released the following statement today after meeting with a delegation of Somali officials led by Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirsahid Ali Sharmake.
“In the two short years since the United States recognized the new Somali government, Somalia has made impressive progress. Prime Minister Sharmake ensured me the government is dedicated to addressing the difficult challenges that still remain. I will continue to work with Members of Congress and government agencies to keep the remittances lifeline to Somalia open, ensure that all Somalis are safe and secure in their country, and advocate for Somali refugees in Dadaab. It is time to see Somalia in a new light, as a partner in trade and a partner in security.”
Today’s meeting focused on Somalia’s efforts to establish a functional central bank, establish a new constitution and hold an election next year and improve the security of its people and the entire region.
