Al-shabab Islamists who control much of southern Somalia have silenced an independent radio station which operates in Balad Hawo town near the Kenyan border, officials said on Thursday.
Mandeq, the local radio FM station has been ordered to be off air by Al-Shabab after the administration of the radio and al-Shabab officials argued the programs that it broadcasts.
The audiences of the radio have expressed great concern about the closure of the radio. The radio is listened in four towns in Somalia and Kenya which are around the border between the two countries.
The Islamists ban the music which is “un-Islamic”. The administration of the radio has reportedly rejected to summit the programs that the radio airs to Al-Shabab after they demanded to do so.
