Somalia: Anti-government operations revealed

Somalia’s minister of national security Colonel Omar Hash Aden said on Friday nearly
100 militants belonging to the radical Islamists that collected from the country’s
southern regions of Bay and middle and lower Jubbas were sent to the capital of
Mogadishu to hunt down government officials.

In a news conference held today in Mogadishu, Col. Hashi said he received
information that up to 90 militiamen sent to Mogadishu to carry out assassinations
against cabinet and parliament members as part of toppling the current government.
He did not mentioned specifically which group they are belonging to but warned off
eminent danger facing the government.

“When we get these killing attempts, we suddenly informed the parliament and we knew
that the hunters began their deadly operation killing one of the parliament members
this week,” Hash said.

His remarks came two days before unknown militiamen killed a member of the Somalia
parliament and senior Islamic officer in the capital.
The Islamic Courts Union officials accused Al-Shabab hardliners of being behind the
latest killings but spokesman of Al-Shabab Mokhtar Robow Abu-Mansor denied these
allegations.

Speaking to the local media through the telephone line from Baidoa town, 250km
southwest of the capital, Robow said those killed were famous Islamist fighters who
took part in the war against the occupation of the Ethiopian forces.
