Hawiye traditional elders said Tuesday they received threats from the Islamist rebel groups in the capital Mogadishu.
Ahmed Dirie Ali, the spokesman of Hawiye traditional elders said on Tuesday that they have been threatened for their role of mediation peace efforts that they are trying to end conflicts between the government and the rebels in the capital Mogadishu.
Mr. Dirie said they got reports intimidating the chairman of Hawiye traditional elders Mohamed Hassan Haad but he declined to give further details about what and who threatened them.
The move comes as the leader of Hawiye elders condemned Sunday the mortars fired by the Islamist rebels in the capital.
Meanwhile, Hawiye traditional elders called for the Somali government to rescind its decision about vowing fighting in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
Mohamed Hassan Haad, the chairman of Hawiye traditional elders suggested the government to reconcile its opponents.
The security minister of the government Omar Hashi Aden had called for the government soldiers to be ready with fighting against “the internal enemy.”
