Meeting that Somalia’s parliament would held in Mogadishu on Thursday have been postponed after one of the lawmakers have been killed by unknown militia men in front of his house in Mogadishu, officials said on Thursday.
The deputy speaker of the parliament Osman Elmi Boqore, said the parliament was due to discuss ways of implementing the Sharia on Thursday but it was postponed until Saturday because of the death of the parliamentarian.
MP Abdulahi Isse Abtidon was killed in front of his house in Heliwa, a strong hold of Islamist rebels in the north of the city. The deceased MP was one of the Islamists before he joined the enlarged parliament in December, 2008.
The killing alerts many parliamentarians who wander in the capital with out any security guards.
Speaker Osman Elmi Boqore sent condolence to the bereaved family. Two parliamentarians were wounded in the capital by unidentified gunmen in Mogadishu since the legislature relocated to city and were taken overseas for treatment.
No group has claimed the responsibility of the killing, but the Islamist rebels had said they would kill the MPs and the government officials.
