Somalia: Parliament endorses Islamic Law

Somalia’s parliament has overwhelmingly endorsed the Islamic Law to be implemented in Somalia, officials said on Saturday.
The approval of the parliament was welcomed by many Somali clerics and elders.

The deputy speaker of the Somali parliament Osman Elmi Boqorre announced that 343 parliamentarians who attended in the meeting voted for the Islamic Law enforcement.

“Three hundred and forty three lawmakers attended in today’s meeting and they all voted for the implementation of Islamic law,” said Osman Elmi, the deputy speaker of the parliament who chaired the meeting.

No lawmaker has rejected or abstained the voting for the proposal of the Islamic law.

Somalia’s cabinet ministers had previously approved the Islamic Law and submitted to the parliament.Government ministers, clan elders and Islamic were present in the meeting.
