Somalia; Puntland authorities release famous cleric

A famous cleric who was arrested in Bosasso last month by Puntland Intelligence Service (PIS) has been released on Thursday, officials said.

Two civilians and one soldier were killed in the city on 23 of March 2009 after the Sheik was forcefully arrested by Puntland Intelligence Service (PIS) in the port city of Bossaso and the people protested against his arrest.

He was accused of wrecking violence in Puntland, the semiautonomous region of north eastern Somalia.

He was brought before a court in Puntland on Wednesday and was about to appear on Thursday again but officials of Puntland authorities announced that he is free.
