U.S. congressman Donald Payne met Somalia’s president Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed and Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke and cabinet ministers in the presidential palace in Mogadishu, officials said on Monday
Donald Payne held a press conference in the capital after the meeting he had with the president and the prime minister.
“We came Mogadishu to meet the president, the prime minister, other ministers and to see the progress made by the new Somali government,” said U.S. congressman Donald Payne
“There are negative images in Somalia caused by piracy and we believe working forces and effective government can stop the piracy.” Mr. Payne added.
Somali Prime Minister Sharmake said they talked with Donald Payne how the two governments can work the security of the country, the policy and the humanitarian situation.
On the other hand, mortars were fired to the airport after the U.S. congressman flew from Aden Ade international airport in Mogadishu.
Police officials confirmed that three civilians were injured by mortar shells near the airport.
