Tensions arose in the capital Mogadishu after a senior Islamist commander and his security guard have been killed in Mogadishu by suspected Shabab militia, witness said on Thursday.
Sporadic fighting between al-Shabab and the Islamic Courts Union that work with the government have started in the area that the commander was killed.
The interior minister of the Somali government Sheik Abdulkadir Ali Omar said that the government would not tolerate the “assassins who kill prominent people in the capital.”
The statement of the interior minister comes as a senior Islamic Courts Union official and his security guard were killed in Mogadishu. The official Sharif MohamudHassan(Kariye) was working with the government and his car was targeted by unknown gunmen.
The minister vowed that they will not tolerate the aimless killings and the violence that is still continuing in the capital.
“You know that a cleric MP was killed in Mogadishu yesterday and today a senior official was killed, we have many times called for peace and it was rejected so after this time we will defend the people,” the minister said.
He called for the Somali people to take part restoring the peace of the capital. The interior minister has spoken angrily for the first time about the ongoing killings by unknown groups.
