The United States government has said it will investigate reports that one of its national was on Saturday kidnapped from Somalia’s central city of Galkayo, Mudug region.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Joanne Moore said the ministry will launch investigations into the incident where armed gangs kidnapped alleged U.S citizen from the city.
Mrs. Moore said she could not reveal the manes of the hostage, thus could not give further details on the abduction.
Gunmen on Saturday kidnapped a foreigner which was later said to be an American in the Somali town of Galkayo.
The man was allegedly taken by his own guards who had links to a pirate gang, according to officials.
Kidnappings are relatively common in the anarchic Horn of Africa country, considered among the most dangerous countries in the world for journalists, aid workers and private contractors to work in.
In October, an armed gang abducted an American and a Dane working for the Danish Demining Group in Galkayo, which straddles the border of Galmudug and another semi-autonomous region, Puntland.
