allAfrica.com: Somalia: Cabinet Line-Up Deadline Extended for PM
Somalia's Federal Parliament has given a 10-day deadline to the newly appointed Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed to form a cabinet line up on Saturday, Garowe Online reports.
In a letter dated 11 January 2011 and handed over to the Parliament Speaker Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari who read the points mentioned in the letter before the parliament, Mohamed requested to the MPs a deadline extension.
"The Prime Minister wants a deadline extension of 10 days to complete the list of cabinet of ministers ahead of the confidence vote," said Jawari.
After parliamentarians listened to Prime Minister Mohamed's request, the MPs unanimously voted in favor of supporting the extension date.
Mohamed was sworn-in into the office on 21 December 2013 and today expected to announce the cabinet members.
Sources close to Villa Somalia Presidential Compound tell GO that immense pressure mounts on the Prime Minister from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, MPs and clan elders who all wants to influence the selection process.
President Mohamud named Mohamed as Federal Government of Somalia's Prime Minister last month, appeasing the supporters of the former Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon after parliamentary no-confidence vote.
