Kenya’s anti-terrorism police on Friday released Peter Wang’ondu who claimed links with Al-Shabaab militia from Somalia, Xinhua News Agency reported.
The Anti-terror Police Unit in Nyahururu arrested 35-years old Kenyan citizen -who was an English teacher at Alpha Secondary School in Mogadishu in 2005 – after he claimed that he had information on the September 21, 2013 Westgate attack.
Police said that Wang’ondu is paranoid and lair, adding that he was not involved al-Shabab activities.
“Not at all. The man is not al-Shabaab fighter but it is true he has been to Somalia but he is not in an al-Shabaab cell. He was a teacher in Somalia in 2005 but he never joined the terror group. He is paranoid,” Boniface Mwaniki, The Head of the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) told Xinhua on Friday.
Peter Wang’ondu converted to Islam during his stay in Somalia and changed his name to Abdullahi, before he came back to Kenya.
Boniface Mwaniki said Peter has been in Somalia before becoming paranoid, stating that he was admitted to Mathari Hospital in Nairobi at that time.
Police advised Wang’ondu to see seek medical attention.
