Overnight Shelling on Somali capital wounds four
At least four people have been wounded in an overnight shelling on southern parts of the Somali capital Mogadishu, residents and eye witnesses confirmed here on Friday morning.
According to residents, several shells landed on residential areas in the Bulo Hubey neighbourhood south of the city, where four civilians have been wounded and were rushed to the nearby Madina hospital.
The shells were targeting Mogadishu’s Aden Adde international airport which has been one of east Africa’s busiest airports.
Al Shabaab militants fighting Somali government and AU troops have claimed for the responsibility of last night’s shelling on the city. On their internet sites, the Al-Qaeda-linked group said they carried the operation which was targeting specific areas including Aden Adde international airport of Mogadishu.
This was the first time in nearly a year that Al Shabaab militants shell the airport which is next to the main AU headquarters in Halane neighbourhood south west of the capital.
Neither AMISOM nor the Somali government were available for comment on this latest shelling.
