Debate: Can a Somali force bring peace to the country?

The European Union has launched a mission to train 2,000 Somali soldiers with the aim of boosting the country's transitional government.

The move is a direct result of a call by the UN Security Council for the international community to help Somalia improve security.

Since coming to power nearly two years ago, the Somali government has faced insurgency from Islamist militants.

A government offensive against the militias has been delayed partly by lack of training and equipment. Can a Somali force provide stability for the country?

Should the EU be getting involved? How else can the International community help Somalia? What would make the Somali force more effective? Send us your views.
