AMISOM denies providing infected drugs to Somalis in Mogadishu

The AMISOM’s spokesman Major Barigye Ba-huko has denied a statement from Al-shabab on providing infected drugs to the Somali people in Mogadishu, just a day after governor of Banadir region for Al-shabab ultimately warned to the people not to go to health centers of the African union troops in the capital.

Major Barigye Ba-huko said that reports indicating that AMISOM gives an infected medicine to the people were baseless propaganda adding that they worked with more Somali doctors whom he said had knowledge for the good and bad drugs.

“What Al-shabab said was totally fake; we give good medicine to the Somalis. The people and those have knowledge for the drugs know well. AMISOM helps more Somali people from far regions like: Hargeisa, Kismayu and so on. We give good treatment for those who can not get any money and can not buy the medicine. We also do operations for the serious injuries indeed. We have also partner ships with some of the hospitals in Mogadishu, but Al-shabab does not allow for these people to get free health care from AMISOM,” said Major Barigye Bahuko.

The spokesman called for the Somali people to come the hospitals of AMISOM to continue their medical treatment and drugs pointing out that the African Union troops would continue providing the medicine to the Somali people.

Asked about whether AMISOM provides the medicine to only for the civilians or other parts of oupulatuin, he replied that they treat all parts of the Somali people and that their presence in the country was not killing, but was helping, resting peace and stability of Somalia.
The spokesman said that AMISOM troops had well trained health officials, doctors and his statement comes as Al-shabab warned to the Somali people not to go to the hospitals of the African Union troops in Mogadishu on Monday.
