Two Somali-born men charged with terror plans

Two Somali-born men were Friday charged in a Swedish court on suspicion of planning a terror attack.

The two, aged 22 and 26, are Swedish nationals. Both were linked to the radical Islamic al-Shabab militia, the prosecutor said.

Prosecutor Agnetha Hilding Qvarnstrom told Swedish radio news that the suspects had planned a suicide attack, but said it was not clear when or where it would take place.

The prosecutor said the plans were at an early stage, and evidence included wiretapped telephone conversations.

The pending trial was to be held at the district court in the west coast city of Gothenburg, where the younger man was arrested in May. The older man was arrested in June in a Stockholm suburb.

Al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for twin suicide blasts in Uganda in July where over 70 people were killed, among other incidents.
