Somalia: Islamist group condemns Saturday’s mortar attacks

Hizbul Islam Islamist group, a faction that Mohamed Hassan Amey leads condemned Saturday’s mortar attacks to the Mogadishu port areas.

Four people were killed and sixteen others were injured in Mogadishu by Mortar attacks after Islamist rebels shelled Mogadishu sea port on Saturday.

The spokesman of the group Sheik Da’ud Abtidon described the mortars as Un-Islamic and said those fired the mortars were against the interest of the Somali people in Mogadishu.

"people who have personal interests were behind yesterday’s attacks and they are against the interest of the civilians,” Sheik Daud Abtidon.

The group which split from other faction of Hizbul Islam said they stopped the fighting and waiting an answer from the Somali Association clerics.

No group has claimed the responsibility of yesterday’s attack so far, but witnesses said they saw al-Shabab militants firing mortars to the sea port.
