Hawiye clan elders have angrily said Sunday they would not tolerate any more violence and mortar attacks in the capital Mogadishu.
Mohamed Hassan Haad, the chairman of Hawiye clan elders, the dominant clan in Mogadishu, condemned the fighting which is still continuing in Mogadishu and described meaningless.
“We can not accept wars in Mogadishu while the other parts of the country are safe and peace. We heard people urging wars in the capital and working for the peace in their residences,” said Mohamed Hassan Haad.
“Mogadishu will not be a battle ground for opposing factions any more,” Haad added.
Speaking in a press conference in Mogadishu, Haad also called for the Somali government to speed up the implementation of Sharia law in the country.
The speech of Mohamed Hassan Haad comes a day after al-Shabab spokesman Abu Mansoor urged his fighters to shell Mogadishu sea port and continue the fighting.
Abu Mansoor also condemned the Somali clerics who have been mediating between the government and the Islamist rebels.
