Coast guard denies Yemenis' support for Somali pirates

An official source of the Yemeni coastguards denied on Tuesday a statement of U.S. Admiral Mark Fitzgerald who claimed that Yemenis supply oil to Somali pirates.

''This statement is unfounded'', the source said to the military-run 26sept.net, making clear that Yemen was a victim and the most affected country by piracy in the Gulf of Aden and off Somali coasts.

''Several trade ships and Yemeni fishermen have been attacked by the Somali pirates and used them as human shield'', the source said.

Yemeni Navy and Coastguard Forces are trying their best to combat piracy and support the international efforts in this regard to secure international navigation and stability in the region.
