Somalia: How is the fate of the Somalis in Egypt?

There are over thousand of Somalis living in several towns in Egypt particularly in the capital Cairo, where there are mass demonstrations which are underway for the 14th day.

The Somali ambassador to Egypt, honourable Abdullah Sheikh Hassan who is based in Cairo, has verified for Somliweyn website, that so far the Somalis in Egypt have not been victims of the waves of the demonstrations in some of the big towns in Egypt, particularly in Cairo, Suez and Alexandria.

“Many thanks to God that my people (Somalis) have not indulged themselves in the waves of the demonstrations in some of the big towns in Egypt which are basically based on Political changes, I strongly recommend the Somali people that they should remain indoors particularly during the night hours and not involve themselves in these ongoing demonstrations” said the Somali ambassador to Egypt Mr. Abdullah Sheikh Hassan.

The majority of the Somalis in Egypt are mainly involved in business activities and learning institutions.

So far the only Somali politician who has loudly roared for the help or the evacuation of the Somalis in Egypt just like the other people from the other nations in the world, is professor Mohamed Omar Dalha who is a member of the Somali parliament and a former deputy speaker of the Somali parliament.

The professor is the only Somali politician who is at length engaged the issues of the Somalis in the other country across the world, just recently the professor was in the Kenya’s second capital city of Mombasa, and was having meetings with the Kenyan officials in the coastal town of Mombasa on how to release Somali juveniles detained in jails in Mombasa.

After hard struggle the professor has won to free the Somali juveniles in the jails of Mombasa.

These youths were intending to cross into Tanzania and their last destination was South Africa, where many of the Somalis have been pouring into fir the last couple of years, but they were unfortunately intercepted by the Kenyan police.
