The African Union (AU) peacekeeping forces in Mogadishu on Saturday said that they have foiled attacks by Islamist rebels on their military bases in the Somalia's lawless capital, Mogadishu.
The African Union peacekeeping soldiers in Somalia said on Saturday, that they have thwarted series of attacks from Al-Qaeda-allied al-Shabaab insurgents which the group was going to regain control of Mogadishu, an AU force spokesperson said.
The spokesman for AMISOM Paddy Ankunda, told in an interview with Shabelle media that Al-shabab have attacked and tried to retake on Saturday morning, the district of Karan in the lawless capital, Mogadishu, but was foiled by AU soldiers in the district.
"They tried to infiltrate military positions held by peacekeepers in Karan, one of Mogadishu's districts, but our soldiers thwarted that and pushed them back after battle," AMSOM spokesman to Shabelle media.
Mr. Ankunda, asked the African Union and world community to send more extra troops into Somalia to flush al-shabab out of their strong hold regions in the country
The AMISOM forces that mainly make up 9,000 soldiers from Burundi and Uganda back the weak by internationally recognized Somali government in their struggle to contain deadly Islamist insurgency at the bases of TFG and AU in Mugadisho.
