Ethiopia: NNPD said unique to residents of Somali State

The Somali State Chief office said that Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Day has a special meaning to residents of the state as it ensured their equal benefit from development gains.

Speaking at a press briefing organized here on Friday in connection with the Day, Head of the Somali State Chief office, Abdulfetah Mohammed Hassen, said that residents of the state will mark the Day colorfully as it guaranteed equality of nations and nationalities of Ethiopia.

He said the celebration of the Day would have a significant contribution to unite all nations and nationalities of Ethiopia for national development.

Residents of the Somali State have benefited more from the development, democracy and good governance results attained over the past years as the constitution enshrined the equal benefits of nations and nationalities of the country, he said.

According to Abdulfetah, remarkable outcomes were registered in education, health, potable water, agriculture and infrastructure development sectors in the state over the past years.

He said the celebration would help share best experience that nations and nationalities have had as well as display their cultures, languages and traditions.

The Somali State Communication, Culture and Tourism Bureau Head, Mohammed Gure Bisle, on his part said that the event is a good opportunity to develop culture and language of residents of the Somali State.

The state government has already prepared a cultural troupe that will take part and stage cultural dances as well as display cultural equipment at the celebration.

The Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Day to be marked for the 5th time in Ethiopia is meant to honor the day on which the rights and equality of the Ethiopian nations, nationalities and people were fully respected and guaranteed under the Constitution.
