Muslim around the world will hold annual Eid al-Adha celebrations and festivities Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011.
Eid al-Adha commemorates the willingness of Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to God and a rejection of Satan.
Muslims start their day with a prayer service, followed by sacrificing a goat, lamb, camel, or cow to mark the symbolic significance of the day, and the food is distributed to the less fortunate. This serves as a reminder to all Muslims to take a step back and focus our energies on positivity, avoid worldly temptations, and focus on spirituality.
“On behalf of the American Muslim Community Centers, I would like to extend best wishes for Eid and hope that this will bring peace, blessings, and joy to the entire world,” said Atif Fareed, chairman of the American Muslim Community Centers, a nonprofit organization based in Longwood, Orlando, Florida.
