Zechmann Sentenced for Killing Somali Man Near Grand Island

A young killer learns his fate, a year and a half after shooting a man and leaving him for dead on a rural road.

John Zechmann will be going to prison for 17 to 20 years for the death of a Somali man.

Zechmann and two friends had taken Faud Osman into the country to drink in August 2007.

That's when prosecutors said previously that Zechmann hit Osman with a beer bottle and shot him.

Hall County Attorney Mark Young said it was an appropriate sentence, close to the maximum.

Amanda Weddle and Jennifer Ehlers previously faced charges. They were with Zechmann that night.

Court records showed the three met Osman at a downtown bar. He later bought them beer at a grocery store. The account in the court records showed they took Osman into the country to rob him. Suspects told police they left the man bleeding along a rural road near Doniphan where his body was later found.
